Back again for a few hours after work this afternoon. Managed to shift some more of the capping so that the hole is now taking shape. Finally hit some ash, and soon had the first find of the project: a manky clear glass poison. A few more broken bits and pieces also came out, but far too modern for our purposes. It looks like early 1940's at the moment. Still needs considerably more depth. Also managed to injure my shoulder quite badly, could hardly move my arm by late evening.
